AI Showcase

This page is dedicated to showcasing systems and applications built with the help of AI. The goal is to highlight what’s possible with modern AI tools, inspire new ideas, and share practical examples of AI-assisted development in action.

Special thanks to Jim and Tim from the Naperville AI Enthusiasts group, whose demos, discussions, and sessions inspired many of the examples featured here.

Chicago Commuter Train Line Departure Boards

Ken Hughes has built a train schedule app with a simple, single-page interface designed specifically for Chicago commuters. What I like most about this app is its focus and simplicity — it intentionally answers one question: When is my next train?

Anyone who has commuted from the Chicago Loop to the suburbs knows the balancing act of enjoying time with coworkers or friends after work while still trying to make the next train home. I’ve sprinted through Union Station more times than I can count. Sometimes I made the train. Sometimes I didn’t.

When you’re racing the clock, having a fast and reliable way to check train departure times matters. That’s exactly what Ken has built: a useful tool that quickly gives commuters the status of their train line without making them dig through menus, apps, or complicated schedules. Each train line has its own direct link. I can bookmark or Save to Home Screen my specific line and have one-click access whenever I need it.

There are three things that really appeal to me about this app:

  1. It’s useful. I can quickly check the status of my train and keep refreshing it while making my way to the station.
  2. Each train line has its own direct link. I can bookmark my specific line and have one-click access whenever I need it.
  3. The interface is simple. It’s a clean, single-page UI with exactly the information I need — nothing more, nothing less.

Tee It Up Chicago

I (Chris Fuller) built Tee It Up Chicago, a tool designed for golfers in the Chicago area. The app helps with common golfing tasks like finding local courses, tracking unofficial handicaps, organizing matches, and exploring scorecards and course information.

What started as a side project has also become a showcase for modern AI-assisted software development. Much of the app was built with the help of AI coding agents, allowing me to rapidly experiment with features, workflows, and ideas that would have taken significantly longer to build traditionally.

I’m not entirely sure where this project will lead. For right now, it’s a useful tool for local golfers and an opportunity to explore how AI can accelerate product development for independent builders.
